On April 6th, 2012 I had a chance to meet US Congressional Hawaii District 2 Candidate Tulsi Gabbard at her first ever Maui Sign waving in Kahului. Gabbard is THE PRIME choice to represent Hawaii district 2 in Washington DC. Unlike her competition, she took the time to hear our questions and concerns on Maui. Two of the many issues she is bringing to the table have my full support on. There are so many other subjects she has brought up that have my support on also. The main two are listed below.
I totally support her views on LGBT/Civil Unions and Marriage are full of support. Gabbard stated in the Maui News and to us at the sign waving that she believes in equal rights for all and that any government benefit extended to one group should be extended to all. She also said that in Congress she would work to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as a union of one man and one woman, and support passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, which would allow the U.S. government to extend benefits to all couples, regardless of sexual orientation. I have been spreading the word about what Tulsi has stated above and have reeled in some members of the LGBT community on Maui. As an advocate of “Equality For All”, this one truly rang the bells and my head.
Like thousands of others in the country, I totally support and agree on what Tulsu Gabbard stated about pulling our soldiers completely out of Afghanistan and how us as tax payers are having our tax dollars wasted over seas. She believes that our tax dollars should be spent at home instead of paying billions for an “Illegal Invasion” of other nations. “We spend over 1 billion dollars per year on our 100,000+ troops serving in Afghanistan. We need to be investing in our own country.” Gabbard stated in news papers.
She already has a ton of public service down. She serves in the Hawaii Army National Guard as a captain for a medical brigade based out of Hawaii. She has put her life on the line twice serving in the Middle East for the War on Terror. She served in the Hawaii state legislator in the House of Representatives. She has also served in the City and County of Honolulu Council. Her knowledge of how the government works is immense.
It is time to get a fresh voice for Hawaii in Washington DC. She is head strong and always speaks what is on her mind. She gives a good fight and does not stop until bills pass. In my honest opinion, we need more young candidates to start running for the US Congress. With all the older congressmen and women stuff doesn’t get passed all that easily nor do they even care to listen to the people that voted for them to those seats. Tulsi Gabbard has my full Vote in the up coming election. She has a ton of support from the younger generations in the State.
